taianomainen
Nestled on the shores of Lake Quinault inside the Olympic National Park sits Taianomainen; a Finnish word meaning 'as if magic'. Jan Jewell's maternal grandfather was born in Finland and a visit to the summer cottage of relatives still living there, combined with her family's annual camping trips to visit National Parks all over the US and Canada, inspired her design for this magnificent lodge-style home.
Jan delighted in using native hardwoods and local granite in her design. The Douglas Fir timberframe and natural cedar tree trunks came from Squamish, British Columbia, the granite from the Cascade Mountains, and the river rock from the Fraser River in Canada. Set in a magnificent temperate rain-forest filled with enormous trees, lakes, and waterfalls; with the Olympic Mountains providing a snow-capped backdrop, this home is a continual source of inspiration and wonder that she loves sharing with family and friends.
